The Village is required to provide public education information annually to users of our water supply system. An important piece of that education is cross connections.

A cross connection is any connection between a possible non-drinking water source and your water line, which ultimately leads to the Village water system. An example would be: A hose attached to a faucet that has no back-siphon prevention device installed, and the hose is in a bucket of water, a sink, a bathtub full of water or a watering tank. In these cases if there would be a sudden drop in water pressure it could cause the water from the bucket, sink, bathtub or tank to be backsiphoned into the water line causing a contamination. This is why it is necessary that outside faucets must have a backflow preventer, commonly known as a hose bibb, installed. These can be purchased very reasonably at hardware stores. The backflow preventer does just that – prevents the water from flowing back from the bucket, sink, etc. into your water line and ultimately the Village’s water main.
