NOTICE TO ANSLEY RESIDENTS – We want to remind everyone of what takes place with the 811 Diggers Hotline process when a utility company or resident call in a locate request.

Utility companies – the Village, Black Hills, Hamilton (formerly NCTC) and residents are required to call 811-Diggers Hotline when any installation of utilities, footings, posts, fences, etc. involves excavation of dirt.

Once Diggers receives the request and produces a locate ticket, utilities are required to place flags locating their lines. Depending on the utility those flags will differ in color AND THEY ARE NOT TO BE REMOVED OR MOVED UNTIL WORK IS COMPLETED! It is illegal to move or remove locate flags and violations can be turned over to the Nebraska Attorney General’s office for prosecution. The purpose of Diggers Hotline is to allow utilities to identify the locations of their buried lines so any excavations and/or installations will not cut, damage, or destroy other utility service lines already in place and disrupt service to homes, neighborhoods, or possibly the entire community and repairs can be very expensive!

Hamilton (NCTC) will be doing significant utility work this spring and summer with the fiber optic lines they will be burying throughout the community and to households. Locate flags will be more prevalent while the work is being completed. We also realize this is mowing season, so utilities will also try to paint the areas this year as well as place the flags so if you are mowing and need to pull the flag to mow that line/area, you will then know where to replace it correctly, and you MUST replace the flag to its original location.

Besides being illegal to move or remove a locate flag, it also causes delays because work cannot begin until all utilities have located with flags in place. When flags are missing for any utility a refresh ticket must be requested, the process starts over, and utilities are forced to come and relocate with flags. Please teach your kids and everyone in your household and anyone providing mowing service about this process. Flags seem to be pulled by kids to play with, adults to mow around, or just because they don’t know the purpose. We appreciate your cooperation in abiding by the rules.
